Bio

JoonYup is an applied microeconomist with a focus on urban economics, real estate, and housing economics. His research primarily addresses housing affordability and residential segregation in major cities, examining their impact on household welfare, opportunity, and intergenerational mobility. A key aspect of his work involves designing housing policies that reduce residential segregation and foster societal integration. His recent work explores how improving access to higher-opportunity neighborhoods for low-income and minority households affects residential equilibrium and household welfare across the board. JoonYup is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization (UHERO) and the Hawaii Community Reinvestment Corporation (HCRC) Professor in Affordable Housing Economics, Policy, and Planning.
